Hip and Groin Pain

Pain can increase gradually overtime or occur suddenly due to trauma or sporting injury.

It can affect anyone ranging from Elite level athletes, your weekend warrior or to your over 60s trying to maintain an active lifestyle.

Causes

Mechanical overload of the hip joint and the muscles surrounding the hip can cause persistent pain and injury. Having a previous injury to the hip and groin region is one of the main risk factors for further symptoms.

Symptoms

Hip and groin pain can manifest as pain in the groin, Lateral hip, or buttocks. Generally, patients with hip or groin pain will use compensatory patterning to alleviate painful symptoms. The main indicators of hip and groin pain can be stiffness, limping with an out turned foot and pain when standing after long periods of sitting.

Assessment

Hip and groin pain can also refer from the lower back. This is where our experts here at RD Physiotherapy complete a full body screening when assessing any hip or groin related issues to get to the root cause of your injury.
