Whiplash
Acceleration-deceleration forces on the neck cause whiplash.
Whiplash is the common term for the acceleration-deceleration forces on the neck which may occur in a motor vehicle collision or other incidents such as a fall or sporting injury.
Causes
Acceleration-deceleration forces may result in painful injuries to the muscles, ligaments and joints of the neck and other spinal areas. Symptoms can occur immediately or can develop over time.
Symptoms can include:
- Pain and stiffness of the neck or back
- Difficulty turning your head
- Pain or stiffness in the shoulders, down the arms or in the lower back
- Dizziness
- Headaches
